i just 2 who phoned me in a space of 20 minutes, they both sounded like someone had glued their butt cheeks together.

Probably because they do. Why would anyone take a job where you are constantly hung up on, yelled at, etc. Gluttons for punishment, they are! I'm lucky. I have an anti-solicitation on my land line through my phone company. Believe it or not, some still have the b@#ls to get through. That's when you threaten them with the FCC.
This is what my husband used to do:
"Hello?"
"Yes, this is So And So from Such and Such..."
"Yes, yes, this all sounds wonderful, but I will have to call you back. Can I get your home phone number?"
Silence.
"Really. Give me your home phone number and I'll wait until you are eating dinner and call you back."
They usually hang up after this. LOL
