The day may come but for now I think a good step in the right direction would be teaching children to think. We teach them data and simple problem solving algorithms but we don't pose questions that really make one ponder and be creative with answers. Encouraging imagination and creativity is encouraging one to tap into the realms of meditation and metaphysics IMO. If a group of children could be assisted in developing good problem solving by working together and sharing their creativity we'd have a great group of adults later on.

As an elementary school teacher, it shouldn't be, because first too much abstract thinking is involved. Elementary school children are at a level of concrete thinking. Second, meditation requires emptying the mind,(or even clearing is a concept not easily grasped at the age) that is counter productive to teaching. If I understand what you are referring to as Metaphysics, isn't true Metaphysics. The best way to relax is to exercise, that is why there is physical Education , it has many more benefits. I personally would oppose any of that being introduced, because of the philosophy that permeates much of that style of thinking.
Both teach about a reality which is not established as being true, if it is the Metaphysics I think you are making reference to as a discipline. You may consider me intolerant, but I am sure everybody is intolerant of something.

Practicing transcendental meditation provides a peace and self-understanding within. Children are fully capable of being shown how to center down within themselves and how to be more creative with their lives. Unfortunately, this is a "mysterious" realm to many people and it will never be allowed in the traditional schools, unless perhaps some progressive school boards provide it as an elective.
Wouldn't it be a great thing to do a study of the changes (or not) taking place in a group of children who are exposed to transcendental meditation practices?
Unfortunately, there is an organization that makes a lot of money teaching "transcendental meditation."

I work at a college that offers yoga classes and have unofficially taught people meditation and metaphysics for years on and off campus and on-line. See my profile.

Transcendental Meditation (TM) is too advanced for elementary school students but would work well for those who are in high school and college as a general elective.

But let us not stop there.

There are practitioners of TM that have said that The Silva Method (TSM) is more effective than TM in reaching a deep level of meditation quickly.

In light of that, I would recommend TSM over TM for high school and college students.

In the overall sense, basic meditative techniques for relaxation, rejuvenation, and problem solving would be a helpful and progressive step for any teenager. Furthermore, as a general elective, meditative practices like TSM and TM would work well in a high school environment and also college, as many people naturally pursue these things when they are of that age.

Regarding metaphysics, in the 1990s I attempted to pursue a graduate (Master's) degree in metaphysics at a University in Louisiana. I have extensive experience in this area of life and found that their curriculum and many of their ideas were antiquated and distorted.

Metaphysical understanding is still in its formative stages and there is a war going on in the flesh and in the Spirit over what is essential.

In light of this, I would rather there be no metaphysics taught at all than to see teenagers and college students memorize false ideas about false gods which only furthers spiritual ignorance.

Perhaps for now, without getting ahead of ourselves, there can be a credited course in high school and college which addresses an across the board, ecumenical approach to Near Death Experience research. With an emphasis not on the god figures witnessed - as there are a number of them - but instead on the basic characteristics of an NDE, the scientific confirmations that there is indeed a soul and that NDE's are not caused by the chemical imbalances of a dying brain (as some close-minded and prejudiced researchers espouse) and to offer students the general metaphysical insights that can be derived from serious and unbiased NDE research.

children learn at a faster rate than adults and their minds are more open. Ok, works for me, just send kids to school 12 months out of the year instead of 9. Or, yeah, do the prayer hour thing

Well I appreciate the idea but I think we should let them learn their numbers and cursive writing before we bring up the meaning of life..maybe we should wait till they are a little older and and little more independent thinking
