I believe there's a website where one can add one's number to stop receiving tele marketing phone calls. I'm sick and tired of talking to people who don't understand "No thanks, I'm not interested."

tps is the route you wanna follow but be warned they can only stop sales calls, Market research is exempt from this service. The best way to handle market research calls is to either take part, or just say that you would like to speak to a supervisor in order that your number will not be called again. Be polite though because the people who do market research are on minimum wage and some are quite young 16-24 mostly, so obviously not the brightest bunch in society (not all though, just a fair majority).
so you have to bear in mind they have the power to arrange an appointment on there computer for your number to be called back (this is against the Market Research Society code of conduct) but as mentioned they are young, not bright and would find it highly amusing to call back somebody who just got very angry 2 minutes later!

This is in the info in my telephone directory it cut down on a lot of unwanted ads -takes a couple of weeks

Telephone Preference Service (TPS) tel 0845 070 0707 Fax 0845 070 0706. It's part of a service by the Direct Marketing Association - you can elect to receive ads in areas of interest to you if you wish.

They also have services for E-mail, Fax and Post. You can also notify them if someone has died so no use sending them more ads.

Website for all is www.dma.org.uk
You have to notify each service individually.

I heard the goverment was going to start a list like that or they have already not sure, but yes its true they call every 5 mins. They do not stop talking, and you end up just being rude and hanging up the phone on them.

Telephone preference service or BT's free privacy service (both do same thing). Sometimes you need to re-register after 12months. It works REALLY well. Plus, you can be on directory enquiries but not in the phone book - that also helps.

Try the Telephone Preference Service (http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/), unfortunatley no company can prevent people calling you from overseas, so you may still get some calls, your best option is to tell most cold callers that you are on the TPS list and they are to remove you from their lists, they usually hang up or agree pretty quickly.

It depends, if you are in the UK then I know the answer is YES. You can go to www.tpsonline.org.uk and register with them. That will stop all call centres in the UK from calling you, and some but not all of the International calll centres.

Register with the TELEPHONE PREFERENCE SERVICE through your phone-line supplier. If you then get calls, just ask them if they've checked to see if your on TPS and it's guaranteed they'll hang up and not bother you again. Of course, if you've got "Caller Display" and they're pratts enough not to withold their number, you've got them by the bo...sorry - I meant to say you can report them to TPS and they'll be in deep mire! Ain't life fun!!!

if you're in the uk there is a Telephone Preference number you can use to block Telephone Sales.

If anyone calls you after you have registered they can be sued.
