This logic assumes that the primary reason Israel fights wars is to gain
land, not to keep others from invading it and terrorizing it.

You win or lose wars on the basis of completing or failing to complete
your objectives - and what you end up giving up to complete those
objectives.

Israel was there despite the objections of virtually every one of its
neighbors, it had signed peace treaties and (at least temporarily) the
blessings of the planet.

Some would argue that was a great victory.

I would argue that Israel's settlement of the Gaza etc. belied its claims
to just want security. That is, putting people on land guarenteed by
the result of a war to be considered by many as belonging to someone
else guarentees more strife, not less, and looks like a land grab,
plain and simple.

That is, by settling the Gaza, they really lost any sort of moral high
ground about "We're just doing this for our security" that they might
have had. By giving parts of it back, they undo some of that damage
to their reputation.

"win" and "lose" gets pretty muddy here.

the issue is extremely straight forward: what's meant by "triumphing a conflict"? the answer is: reaching one's objectives by military moves. What replaced into Egypt's purpose contained in the Yom Kippur conflict? To capture the Sinai from Israel by military moves. Did this take position? No. hence, Egypt did not win the conflict. hence, everybody who argues in the different case is purely incorrect. Pointing to the very undeniable actuality that Israel surpassed the Sinai decrease back to Egypt 5 years later (as some ought to do) thoroughly misses the point. That action replaced right into a effect of a non violent mutual communicate and next treaty agreed to by both area. It replaced into no longer a "military victory" for Egypt.
