It would be a travesty of all that’s moral and just. The Philippines should never want to give up its own sovereignty to become a state, territory or possession of any country for any reason. What Filipino or Filipina in their right mind would ever consider giving up 600 years of domination and 108 years of freedom to become subjects of the U.S.? Your question implies that the streets are lined with gold, greenbacks grow on trees and you can get rusty old halos from the pawnshops!!!!!

Well sure, similar things have happened before. Look at Puerto Rico and Guam, both US territories. Puerto Rico has a very nice arrangement. All the bennefits of "belonging to" the US but they still have their own country and they get our welfare without paying taxes and people can go back and forth as they please. If Philipines was smart they would go for something like that or they could be a state like Hawaii. After the little Puerto Rico fiasco though I don't think the US wants any more territories. We keep telling them to just leave and go be their own little country but they won't go away. They are like the kid that never grows up and gets out on their own. I think we should make all territories become states and contribute or leave.
So to answer question your name would be the same it would just be a name of a state or territory instead of an indivual country but it wouldn't change anything.

The Philippines have been under American control on and off ever
since the Spanish American war.
In short - its almost happened, and I assure you, nobody even
remotely considered calling it anything other than the United
States of America (though the Philliping are most definitely
not on the American continent)
There was talk about creating a state (just as there has been talk
of making Puerto Rico a state). However, the Philippines now
have their own government, their own constitution and their own
set of political problems completely separate from the United States.

The United States bought from Mexico a few piece of lands a few centuries ago, now these lands are called California, Nevada, Arizona, and others. The United States bought from Russia a piece of land now known as Alaska, from the french government also bought land now called New Orleans, Missouri and such. We owned the Philippines one hundred years ago and their animosity with that idea lead the US to grant independence.
The United States owns several territories both in the Pacific and the Caribbean and if we were to fully incorporate them, no change in the countries name will come from it, we would keep adding stars to our banner, that is all.

I think the name of the country would remain United States. But I think the Of America would have to be dropped at that point.
The Phillippines would then become a state.
However before we granted statehood to the Philippines, we should grant statehood to Peutra Rico and to the US Virgin Islands and maybe the Island of Guam.

It would probably still be the United States of America, and the Philippines would be another state - like what happened with Hawaii.

They wouldn't. Philippine would be just another state. Plain and simple. It'd be disgraceful to 'join' with another country. Now to buy it that's another story (which should have been Mexico's story).
