It is not true they say because of the coreolis force, but this force is way to weak to do this with flushed water in a bowl

it is due to the earth's clockwise rotation. from the northern hemispere perspective, we spin clockwise, thus water in the bowl or in any vessel will rotate clockwise unassisted. just the opposite for those in the southern hemispere.

you sir need to start watching Mythbusters, it'll answer everything you need to know! like will a cigarette catch gasoline on fire (nope) and if black cars get hotter than white cars in the sun (yes) and the like to make stuff explode. Check it out sometime.

Oh, and the water flushing thing is a myth, they busted it on mythbusters.

It doesn't that I know of....the water orifices are angled either clockwise or counter to produce a sort of whirlpool at the bottom.
