Yeah right!! I'd love to c a 6 month old baby walk too!! Average age is 12months but btwn 9 and 15 months is usual. Unless, like some1 said, the baby was premature then you work it out on the age they would have been if they were born on their due date.
However if a baby is a particularly early walker you will generally find that because of all the effort they are putting in2 learning this skill they will be later talkers than babies who are late walkers (and it works both ways!)
Most importantly- they will reach these milestones in their own time so (I know u've heard it b4 but its SO true!) - rather than trying to hurry them just enjoy them! They r not babies 4 long!!

The age for a baby to start walking is between 10-12 months old but every baby is different. They will walk when they are ready don't try and make them walk before hand as it could be bad for child.

I can say that according to the 'Child Development Milestones' of Physical Development, a guide used by medical professionals and pediatricians worldwide, a baby:

sits with support at 4 months
stands with help at 8 months
Crawls (has a fear of falling) at 9 months
Walks alone at 13 months
Furthermore uses a pincer grasp at 12 months.

Also climbs stairs alone and there is an emergence of hand preference at at 18 mo.

I suggest you get a book describing these child development milestones, the following Development stages/milestones are traditionally discussed:

Physical Development
Social "
Motor "
Cognitive (also known as Piaget) Development
and finally
Language Development.

I hope the above is useful to you - if have a newborn/1year old - congrats ! Also don't worry they will all 'get there'! Good luck!

PS most of the parents above have been extremely accurate! thats cool - except the 6 month thing - that is unusual (i.e. that person is wrong)! However black children to develop slightly quicker than caucasian babies, however it is only a difference of a 1-2 months on average.

Every baby is different. On average, a baby walks between the ages of 9 and 17 months (see sources section below), but some normal babies walk a little earlier or later.

In general, a baby will sit up on its' own at about 6 months. As far as learning to walk, generally 10-12 months, sometimes a little longer. When my son was about 8 months old, we got him a firetruck that had a walking handle on it. He could stand, hold the handle and walk with it. Within a month he was walking without the aid of the firetruck, and hasn't stopped yet!! I have also read that it is not uncommon for a baby to be in the 18 month old range to begin walking, and it is considered quite normal. HTH!!

Normally the average age is about 9 months, but that doesn't mean it's abnormal if they don't start walking until they're 12 - 14 months, or geniuses if they start at 6 months. Buying a baby walker helps them develop motor control and confidence and is well worth the small investment. (makes your baby mobile too) so make sure any hazards are out of their reach at all times!!!

It's different for each child, but full term children should be walking by at least 15 months. My daughers were 11 months and 12 months. My step-daughter was delayed because of prematurity and didn't walk until 18 months.

Most babies do not start to walk unaided until they are 12 months and over for a first born. My son walked unaided at 13 months and my daughter walked at 11 months but she had her brother as encouragment to start doing things early to keep up with him. Now at 20 months she is my pocket rocket
