How about an earth battery? just hammer a length of copper pipe into the ground and about a meter apart a length of iron.
test with a multimeter and you should get about 1 volt reading. It helps if the soil is wet.
To get more voltage just do the same as above and connect up in series. you can light an LED with this or run a clock.
Have Fun

thro a ball in the air nd it will come back... lol.
jokes apart.. take a jar full of water (to the brim), place some plate over it so that no air is left between the plate and jar (onli water). Now invert it holding the plate, now remove the lower hand.. water wont fall and neither the plate (this is the power of atmospheric pressure)
or u can make an allpin float on water by placing with the rite technique (this trick uses surface tension of water)
third trick: (this requires a friend). Lift him a foot in the air. Now tell him to lift you. See both of you are in air now ;-)

throw rocks fresh from a river (or bucket of water -- they need to be in there a while) into a campfire (or near any moderate heat source like a pan on a stovetop). odds are that one of them will be porous and full of water. when that water comes to a boil, the pressure will make the rock explode. instant cheap fireworks ...

It is one of natures protection that prevents serious chemical problems. There are 3 states in the chemical world that is acid ,basic ,and salt. The salt is ph.7and as the ground is basic and the rotting plants are acid when their runoff gets together they become salts in the ocean. That terrible acid spill want get into our water system as there basic parts to neutralize to a salt. Isn't that great that nature takes care of itself in spite of us.
