I'm 15 weeks pregnant and hoping for a natural birth but I've heard so many good and bad things about epidurals. But I have also had severe back and hip pain from my 11th week.

So I want to know what it was like for women who have given birth in water and how different is it and does it really help reduce the pain?

Waterbirth is AMAZING. I had one unmedicated "land birth" and two unmedicated waterbirths. There is a WORLD of difference.

As soon as you get in the tub, you relax and your perception of what it feels like changes. Being weightless in the water helps. The warm water really does take away a lot of the discomfort. There is a reason that a lot of people call waterbirth "an aquadural."

I tore during my "land" birth but had an intact perineum after both waterbirths. The warm water helps you stretch better.

There is a great book called "Choosing Waterbirth" by Lakshimi Bertram (sp?) that you should read.

It is subjective. Many peopel having a water delivery opt for this and are good ready for the soreness, and think it used to be higher than a traditional delivery. But there may be little clinical justification to mention it will have to be LESS painful. It is a flawlessly legitimate and dependable methos for knowledgeable body of workers however the soreness is subjective.
