Halle Berry's character was invited to move into Billy Bob's home.
He went out to get her ice-cream of her favorite flavor. While he was away, she discovered that Billy Bob's character was in some way connected to her husband's execution. The movie ends with the both of them sitting on the steps of the front porch eating ice-cream while reflecting on the journey they've overcome to that point.
