I think that is subjective to ones age, sophistication, ect... I personally would go with one of the classics like Fur Elise because they have stood the test of time.

I've always liked Nessun Dorma by Puccini (used for World Cup Italia 1990) Also Fade to Black by Metallica, Down in a Hole by Alice in Chains and Watching Over Me by Iced Earth.

However, I only heard the last two for the first time a couple of years back, so in a couple more years I may think of completely different songs in different styles that I like.

I like Moonlight Sonata, but I am not sure that you can call it song.

The best song by my opinion is Love Story from Love Story movie.

I think in the modern era. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is hard to top as a 'classic' example of complete pop/rock. However..Barbers Adagio for strings is very moving and timeless...I think William Orbit did a contemporary version..but the original is a must in anyone's collection.

Wow, how do you even begin to answer this one?

For classic rock, three songs have always been near the top for me:

Kashmir (Led Zeppelin)
Behind Blue Eyes (The Who)
Angie (Rolling Stones)

There are a million other songs, though, ranging from classical to popular, show tunes, blues and jazz ....just too numerous to pick one, or two, or three...

You can't tell, there are just too many genius songs.

My favourites: Fade to black (Metallica)
Coma (Guns N'Roses)
Piano Concerto No 2 (Chopin)

PS.: the "moonlight sonata" is by beethoven!
