Basically I would like to try to illustrate a short story, but my knowledge of literature is leting me down. Are there any famous short stories which deal with the subject of mental illness/insanity. Thankyou in advance for your time.

Anything by Madonna. Or Striesand. They both admit to some psychiatric novelties the rest of us can't understand.

And they both have average faces, but had good bodies. (Yeah, even Striesand, believe it or not.)

Twin studies are interesting in that schiophrenia seems to have a higher incidence in identical twins. It also makes for some interesting dates and girlfriends. Ya' never know who you're really with.

But if you REALLY want information on mental illness and insanity, ask any man who's been married for more than 5 years to the same woman. There's some definite craziness going on there.

If you want a study of mental illness in a writer read the Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake. Excellent writing, but you can see the cracks forming. Sad for such a good author.

How about "Girl, Interrupted" by Susanna Kaysen

Or "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath

Would love to see your illustrations

Practically everything written by Edgar Alan Poe
would help you. Also look for stories by Ambrose Bierce.

Then, of course, there's Rod Serling, whose "Twilight Zone" is now in about its third reincarnation.

"The Yellow Wallpaper" and "The Awakening" are both novellas, really, but they are not too long and both very interesting, maybe they would be good!
