It is impossible. Let me tell you a small story. I felt sorry for a friend of mine who moved into an apartment that had roaches. She was only in her place for less than three weeks. The landlord even called the exterminator. She was in tears, so I offered her to stay into an empty home I was selling until she could find another apartment. She stayed in my empty home for three weeks. After she moved out, I began to see roaches!! The best way to eliminate them, is to not only call the exterminator, but to completely remove everything in the house and get rid of it.. In our case they were German Roaches. It was a night mare, and a very costly one at that.... Leave your stuff... Its not worth the thousand I spent to get rid of the roaches.
If it is something you HAVE to have, When you get home, unpack out on the front lawn and go over everything with a fine tooth comb before it comes back into your home. Really, its not worth it... Sorry..

There are a lot products on the market to repell roaches, some more effective than others.
Here in AZ, we have a LOT of roaches. Only thing I ever found to be effective is a white powder called "Roach-Ptuf", the active ingredient of which is BORIC ACID.
Anything with a good amount of BORIC ACID will do the job of getting rid of the roaches. Sprinkle it at the back of the cupboard under sinks, behind the fridge, etc. By the time you're ready to move you wont have worry about roaches hitchhiking back with you.

When you get home, play some Britney Spears music for about five hours. The healthy roaches will leave immediately and head over to the house next door. The weaker ones will curl up and die.
Madonna works too, but they tend to listen longer.

In Denver, we put everything outside in sub zero weather overnight. We left windows open. That killed every egg and bug. we also washed everything before letting it back into house. Four years later, still not one in sight.

oh crap, you're screwed. You may need to call an exterminator to spray the vacation house a week before you leave.

maybe you should wash your dishes everyday - by some "roach motels" and put them everywhere - follow the directions.... or you could do the unthinkable and have the owner call an exterminator - good luck
