I hate to say so but yes your age is not in your favour, even though there are more and more laws against it, age discrimination is alive and well.
However, at your age, you should have loads of experience, that's of serious interest for recruitment and temping agencies so turn to them. Even if they offer you only temp jobs, it's better than nothing, and quite a few temp jobs end up on permanent contracts. Good luck!

It is a joke that people are pushed aside at the age of 56, it is unbelieveable - don't employers understand that the more mature person has so much more experience to offer.
I have noticed on some peoples C.V's that they don't actually put their Date of Birth or age, that way if they like the look of your c.v, they will call you in for an interview and once you are there you can dazzle them with all your experience - Try it, but don't lose heart, it must be difficult, but try and remember, it is their loss.

Unfortunately a lot of employers are age prejudiced

However there are a lot of companies out there that prefer to employ older people

Any way good luck with your job searches, don't give up

There are plenty of employers that prefer age and experience to youth and poor education, especially when it comes to women (many employers will avoid ladies of 'child-bearing' ages for obvious reasons).

So, do NOT keep your date of birth off your CV, as that will work against you in some cases.

I'm afraid you might be right Kathy, however, ignorance of what mature and experienced people can offer is killing industry in this country.

As an employer I have always found mature people to be more honest, punctual and methodical in what they do than say someone in their early twenties.

Good luck !

there are some companies that required old people like you. But you need to press the right button that will link you to such companies. It is not over yet. Keep on contacting friends and well wishers.
