Since children believe they are the center of the universe, it is important that he be made to understand that the divorce has *nothing* to do with him and that neither parent will love him any less. Divorce is always painful for children but in time he will adapt - probably faster than you will.
Take care.

I would get him into counseling immediately. Also, despite how you and your husband feel about one another, put your child first and make sure you don't fight and argue in front of him. Let him know this isn't his fault. And most of all, and I can't make this clear enough, don't ever talk about his father in front of him! And I hope your ex will do the same when it comes to you. I can't stand the ground my ex-husband walks on, but I have never said a bad word about him to our children. That really messes with a kid when a parent does that. This needs to be made as easy for him as possible. Good Luck!

this is also a big transition for him as well. You both should sit your son down and reassure him that he is loved by the both of you and will always be loved. I assume you will have custoday of him. Your husband should begin spending more one on one time with him now. If needed consult a therapist as well. Don't give him false hope, be there for him and listen to what he has to say.
