Currently, there are 3 types of big screen TV sets.

1. CRT (catode ray tube) is the most common type. For that type, calling the repair person would be the good remedy. The worst option is to replace the screen with the new one, if nothing else was damaged.

2. TFT (thin film transistor) is the most durable screen, if not physically damaged by applying excessive pressure (by touching the screen). The only two reasons for the blank screen are:
- power supply failure in the part for igniting the screen;
- the excitating part for the screen.
In first case, repair is possible, whereas in second case, You should consider purchasing the new TV set.

3. Plasma, which make picture by igniting small gas chambers with electrical signal. If Your TV set is of this kind, You will have to buy the new one, because it is irreparable.

Check for the type of Your screen and choose between calling a TV technician and buying a new TV set.

How old is it? If it is like 5 years old or older throw it out. If it is relatively new then call a repair tech.

Chances are you have a DLP set, and the bulb must be replaced. DLP technology affords a pretty nice picture, but so far bulb technology has not been able to keep up. Bulbs originally expected to last for 8,000 hours are only making it to 2,000 hours, sometimes less. $200 US to replace them, and they're typically in short supply.

check first if you have a loose plug (hey its just me!-you'll never know)
if your in a bad luck -you might have a problem with your power control and if its not the problem - your picture tube might need replacement (with a big tv) you're in big trouble that will cost alot! better to buy a new one.
