Arnold Schwarzenegger cannot be President of the United States, because he was not born in the US. He was eligible to become Governor of the state of California because there is no provision in the California state constitution that requires elected officials to be US-born.

He is a governor and cannot become a president because he is not born here.
But it is indeed a problem with electing morons to our offices. If Bible belt elects that son of a president, that is sad but understandable: those are frequent church-goers and under educated people.
But California electing terminator - I think here we are to blame pop culture.
It is one thing or another here - either stupid pop culture or religious myths. One is worth another. Switch on TV and you'll see not a scientist or a serious writer or thinker talking – no way. You'll see a religious lunatic brainwashing people, or you'll see some 'celeb' (teen or under grown young adult without any specific skills or knowledge) bubbling something.
After so much rubbish coming to your head you can elect even Mickey Mouse or Bush.

Don't you mean GOVERNER? because the majority of Americans don't know or don't care about politics and what each candidate represents. Most people go blindly to the polls and vote for "a label" (IE; Republican or Democrat) without really being informed, or they vote based on popularity, looks etc. (sad, but true)

Ronald Reagan was elected because of his movie career. Politics are just beauty pageants in business suits - it's a popularity contest, pure and simple.
The people who actually care about the issues are too "boring" for the average voter to care about, sadly.

For 'Ahnold' to even be able to run for president, it would take a Consitutional Amendment. These things take years to get through and by the time it did, he'd probably have died of old age.

Any US citizen can become a governer, but only a US born citizen can become President.

The people had to right to vote for the people they want that they deem will properly lead them even when the candidate is a Terminator.
