Well, from what I saw living there 3 years, it looked like to me that they knew how to balance work and good times. It's not complicated, just a bit different to what goes on in the States.
The serious looks that they have all the time is just the way they are. The German people usually don't go around smiley-happy like we do in the States, but that does not mean that they are not a happy people. They are just more reserved that we are used to. Like if you go into a German restaurant, they will get your drinks, bring your food and then leave you the hell alone b/c they know that people like to talk and socialize in restaurants and not be bothered by the wait staff (and no free refills means nobody asking if you want more drink every five seconds).
The German people are really a wonderful kind of people, and I'm glad I got to meet them and be in their culture.

I moved to Germany about a year ago - and yes, they are hard working people. But for what? I don't know. They all want to make themselves safe for the future. They don't live "today". But how does anyone know when is your "future" going to end? Will you have time to enjoy it?? Germans should really loosen up a bit and spend some euros just for fun today.

I think we are just different from the Americans. (I'm German)
It's a different culture and therefore the behaviour is different.
I agree with aka_issues (we really have to learn to enjoy life *now* and that's something Germans don't really do) as well as with drewsilla01 (It is nice to read that you like it here :-))) and yes - we are just different)

They are like ants always busy. Honest & Dedicated to
companies the work with.Similar to Singaporeans
