YES!! I grew up in the suburbs, and it was where I learned to drive.. As other posters have said, it looks like organized chaos, but in fact it is remarkably safe.
The main rule to survival is to watch out for those in front of you, and not worry about what is going on behind - those guys can watch out for themselves.. It also helps if you drive a car that already has a few "war wounds" - my 10 year old Mini was perfect for that.. Other drivers will give you more leeway if it appears that you are not afraid of a few more dents and scratches!
Give way to the cabs and busses, and cars that are more bet up than yours..

I am, but then I grew up in the London suburbs. When I re-visit the area I have to remind myself that London drivers appear to observe the rule "Every man for himself". Once you appreciate that, you will be OK. You can still find the occasional act of courtesy, however. Like most large towns and cities, everyone is in a tearing hurry for no apparent reason. Don't forget that a "congestion charge" now applies in the centre of London.

to survive you have to be like them. Drive without regard, and be totally over agressive but don;t expect to get anywhere fast...ever.

It takes a while to to get used to driving in london, but the only way is to do it! You'll pick it up!

Also there aren;t that many accidents as cars never get to go that fast due to the heavy traffic, so although it can seem a nightmare, its a lot safer!

Its like swimming in the big kids pool.

Just reverse the rules you learnt on driving lessons - that "watch other drivers, mirror, signal, manouvre' crap. Instead, just manouvre, then make a hand signal in your mirror, and watch the other drivers.

A sweet smile from a pretty face and the other drivers soon forget they got cut up.

It is a nightmare to drive anywhere in England,
especially if you are used to driving on the right side of the road and think that a doughnut is a roundabout.

Hate it, the roads dont make sense as they have tried to fit more lanes into such a small space that it doesnt work, everyone drives like a muppet and busses often dont care. Hate it hate it hate it hate it hate it.

I think like someone else mentioned you have to get into the same mode as the drivers aggressive and you have to act and bully your way on the roads!
