Because it would hurt the middle class in the long run. This bill was made more for the purpose of lowering taxes in the top tax range (from 39.6% to 35 %) Of course the Republicans are going to vote for paying less taxes themselves.

Many Dem's believe taxes are to low. Democrats stand for income redistribution. Take from the right and give to the poor.

Democrats believe that more taxes will even the field, plus offering hand outs to people is a great way to get votes. Everyone wants to get something for free. Sadly people are too stupid to see that it isn't free at all. It comes from all of us.

Well its economics 101...You have to make money to spend it, And thanks to all of Bushes tax cut to the rich we have to bring in money some how..But you have remember the Republican way of spending.
