Freemasonry is composed of men and women (at least in Co-Masonry which is my Order) who are doing their best to improve the world by improving themselves. We work toward the principles upon which the United States was founded: Liberty, Equality, and Justice. We believe in the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We do try. We are human, however.

It is hubris to say that Freemasons are the greatest people on earth. It is also wrong to tar us with the brush of Satanism and world government aspirations. For many it is just a fraternal organization bent upon doing fundraising and social gathering.

For American Co-Masonry, we tend to be more esoteric in our studies and work toward that most difficult of alchemical tasks: changing the lead of our hearts into gold.

No one is recruited to join. You are welcome to seek more information. We admit women and men of all races, who believe in a Supreme Being (we are NOT a religion), who are tolerant, of good moral character, who are at least 21 years of age, and who are interested in improving themselves and the world.

Other Orders of Freemasonry seek the same in candidates with the exception that some do not admit women, some do not admit men.

The freemasons were/are hardly an exclusive group - as such, you can hardly call them great.
