Usually there are 2 ways I handle this "end of my rope" situation. Either I blow up like a volcano (I have a really bad temper) or I end the situation - if it's a person - it's over between us. If it's a job, I quit. Actually, if I blow up, then it's usually over also. So, it's basically over and out.
I suppose it would be better not to let it get that far or better to somehow be able to communicate in a reasonable, assertive (non aggressive) manner. But I'm no angel and I'm not always so rational.

back onto that rope and learn from earlier mistakes then start thinking what you can do to make things right. That rope will be easier to climb the next time...

The last time i did it, the rope caused my neck to break, nearly choked me and left a nasty burn around my neck, NOT NICE!!!
