The oldest urban settlement is a contest between Catal Huyruk in Turkey (this is a "fun" interactive site : http://www.smm.org/catal/ ) and Jericho in Israel ( not so fun site : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jericho ) both are about 10,000 years old, but Jericho claims to be continuously inhabited. Damascus is usually given the title of "oldest continuously inhabited city

The longest continually occupied city in the world is Damascus.

I live in Athens, but it's not even in the running.

one that still exists or not? if not, city life began somewhere in mesopotamia and babylon, so one of those. if it still has to exist i'm thinking india...
