Well I wouldn't know what to say ... I would be a little shocked.
But usually most men who propose to there girlfriends have already dicussed it with them. All boyfriends and girlfriends discuss marriage at some point. If it's a serious relationship that's lasted for over 8 months, and you have discussed it before then I doubt she would say no. If you plan on proposing to some one you should discuss it with them first, talk about it, what would it be like being married? Could you both make that comitment? Of course you don't want to ask all this the day before you propose!
Even if the woman wasn't ready to get married, she would probley still say yes because alot of couples who are engaged don't have the actualy marriage untill several months later sometimes even years. (unless they really want to get married as soon as possible). It also takes months to plan a large scale wedding.
If some one proposed to a woman and she said no, I would consider her foolish (unless she had a really good reason to say no). You would want to stay calm of course and never get mad. The man proposing should get her out of his life as soon as possible. I would never propose a second time (say several months later) if the woman said no the first time because a) she probley will say no again and b) even if she did say yes, do you really think it would last if she turned you down the first time? It takes alot of courage and true love to propose to a woman and most women realise that.

I geuss if marriage is what you want then you break up with her. It's not really all that easy to get over rejection. See - even if you were to ask her again later and she said yes - it will still suck that she never said yes now. It'll probably bother you forever and affect your relationship in the long run if it were to carry on. Say goodbye....

Its not the first time...maybe for you it is, but you just suck it up, give her a nice smile, and say OK...If you change your mind, don't bother to tell me. Here's my favorite saying "when things are not going your way, use it as a chance to show how much class you have".

Consider what reason she gave you first, if she's not ready wait a while & try again. But make sure you talk about & try see if she is ready. It must be part of your vocabulary!!! Sorry dude, hope it works out!!!

You realise that it is her prerogative to say no and also her prerogative to change her mind.
I would also want to know why. If she doesn't love you then you should move on but if it is for other reasons I would just give her some space and time.

Tell her it shows remarkably good judgment for a woman, excuse yourself and go look for another woman.
