Yep, that is pretty typical. I don't trust doctors anymore since they seem too much in a hurry or they just don't care anymore. The lack of diagnosis seems to be where the problem starts. They never want to take the time to diagnose a problem, just give you pills and get you out so they can see the next person and make more money. If your granddaughter had a history of infections and this person was aware of that, they should have done the test. If they didn't do it on their own, you can make them or find someone who will. I have little patience with doctors now since they are so wrong and nasty anymore. I guess that's why it's called 'practicing medicine' since they don't seem to get it right ever. Good question and I hope your granddaughter is feeling better!!

I do when they do not listen or seem to have compassion. If they care I can forgive them. One made a misdiagnosis because she thought she could do everything. I feel a bit angry that she had not educated herself a bit more just a bit and understood the reaction I was having was diagnositc.
When they ignore a child that is horrible. Children are so delicate.
My grandmother has alzhemizers and cannot tell us what is wrong. My mom asks for tests for urinealysis and the nursing home threatens us if it does not come posistive that we have to pay for it. They say that we are cheating medicare like it is a preson. My grandmother will be moving around and groaning. This time she had a seizure. She comes up with urinary tract infections each time. We wonder why the cannot have compassion and just test her. She cannot tell us what is wrong she just is not well and that is what we know.
Yeah I lose faith when people give up and lack compassion and discount thing.
I am so sorry about your daughter. That is superserious. If that is her regular peditrician I would diguss taking her to a new one who has some compassion and care. Hopefully they can catch these things before they get all they way to her kidneys or do something to prevent them all together. Poor little one.

I had a similar thing happen to me when I was younger. My parents would take me to the Dr. & emergency room. WITH excruciating pain. Told my mother that I wanted attention. AFTER months of this. I ended up having surgery. Ovarian Cyst was twisting. Had my Right ovary removed and a cyst off the left one!!! I was ONLY 15 yrs old at the time.
The Primary Care Physician we have now is GREAT!!! He takes TIME with his patients. Sits down & talks with you about EVERYTHING. Shows and discusses what is going on. Love his personality, bedside manner and his laptop computer he uses!!! This office has gone PAPERLESS!
He can input all the medications you are taking, ADD ones he wants to put you on, IF it doesn't WORK he can look for one that won't affect the others!!! So hardly any side effects when prescribing medications!
I have really learned my lessons the hard way. If in doubt, if it doesn't seem right. GET A SECOND OPINION!!! OR CHANGE DOCTORS!!!

I think people lose faith in their doctors when there is a miscommunication. Sometimes, either the doctor or person fails to listen or talk about important issues, including a history of symptoms. I think the important thing is to find a doctor who will take the time to listen to you. Also, be sure that you feel comfortable to discuss everything openly. And if you suspect a cause, feel free to bring it up, particularly if it's happened before (such as your child's history of kidney infections).
Here are some other tips that may be helpful:

I have the same problem with our family doctor. I knew I had pneumonia but he insisted that it was just a common flu. It dragged on for weeks,.. and months, and he finally agreed that I had pneumonia so he gave me antibiotics that I was apparently allergic to. I realized that he was such a lousy doctor. I decided to drop him and look for another physician, and I always go for a second opinion now.
However, I can't say the same thing about ALL doctors because I had doctors before who were attentive and caring, and are excellent doctors.

There's a few good ones, I'm sure, but a lot seem very poorly trained.
I went to my GP with a stabbing pain in my side around the appendix, he diagnosed appendicitis and told me to get to A&E before it burst. I went, and had to sit for three hours while a doctor insisted I was constipated. Even when I told him I was a nurse myself and think I'd know if I was constipated, he just sulked and reluctantly ordered a blood test - which confirmed I had a, by now dangerously close to rupturing, inflamed appendix.

It seems to me that doctors these day are only doing it for one reason and it isn't to care for people. I suggest finding her a new doctor. One that isn't in it for the money only, I am sorry if any doctors that really care are reading this but it is true. My dads doctor who had been his doctor for about 20 years dropped him in the middle of a visit cause he could take his insurance any more and that is sad cause my mom said he used to care more than that, so Good Luck on finding one that actually cares and always watch what kind of medicines they put you on, some doctors out there like to force you to take lots of unneeded meds.

you can always insist, but as a nurse working with some thick headed doctors I've learned a trick if I want them to listen. I ask a question, for example, "Ah doctor, what do you think, would a urine sample be a good idea" May sound bit lame but it works.

I have no faith in doctors anymore.
My dad went to the doctor with a lump in his shoulder, the doc said it was arthritis, it turned out to be cancer he died 7 weeks later.
Yes you have the right on insisting on treatment.
And don't take any of there bull s**t
Good luck and I hope your granddaughter is OK.

no its not that. doctors are still categorized as gods. But it depends upon doctor to doctor. Sometimes doctors do the experiments and it harms the patients, and some doctors are just concerned with fees. but there are still doctors who are serving the people and do their best without experimenting too new things on them.
sorry for opposite opinion. but i experienced both bad and good things of doctors in recent days on myself.
