Aside from the planet getting hit by an unforseen asteriod or comet, which btw someone's earlier response was we could destroy it that is absolutly ridiculous, we currently have no technology that could destroy an asteriod or comet without it not breaking up and all the peices hitting the planet. Just because in the movies we were able to destroy an asteroid doesn't mean we can in real life. But back to the question at hand, there are literally hundreds of scenarios that could lead to the end of the world, and I'm assuming your talking about the end of humanity. One is when the molten core of our planet stops its revolution, if that we were to happen the planet is said to be dead the same is true for Mars, Mars is a dead plant. Another, scenario hundred thousands of years the planet shifts its core direction and when that happens the polarites of the planet become switched this process takes time and while this occurs the so called ionsphere breaks down, this ionsphere proctects us from the sun and without it the world would heat up killing most life. Also every hundred of thousand of years the orbit of the planet becomes more elliptical when this happen an ice age occurs. We also have a nuclear holocaust which probalby more likely to happen than most other scenarios. Global warming is also a huge threat, and if things don't change we could be looking at ice age or worse, oxygen depletion. Ohh and don'd forget the supervolcano under yellowstone national park, and im seriously not kidding but its overdue by thousand years or so and if that supervolcano erupts we're all dead because the amount of particles and also from the initial blast would black out the sun.

In about 4.5 billion years when the Sun will expand and essentially incinerate the entire planet.
That is the "world" answer. The human culture answer is quite different. Present culture's days can be numbered in months rather than years.
Practically speaking, the end of the human era is beginning. Too dumb to survive.
The planet will go on nicely for a long time. Humans have gone way past the limit. Too late for any tinkering with society.

A week last Tuesday.
The Bible Code people are predicting it for the 29th, of course this is the 5th time the date has been moved.
The Ready Rapturists working themselves into a froth over the middle east, again.
And various nutters are wearing sandwich boards proclaiming "The End is Nigh!"
Don't Panic
The planet should be around for another 3 billion years.
More likely the human race will be extinct by then.
But that won't be in our lifetimes.

Unfortunately, soon. The Apocalypse is going to approach us from the Big East; This is stated in the book of Revelations. Unfortunately, the Big East seems to be Russia, China, and North korea. I hope it doesnt roll over, but if it does, it will be a bloody World War 3. Americans will most likely have to stop living normally, and begin defending this country. Brace yourselves for the havoc the near future will wreak.

Next Monday at 2 p.m.
Or maybe a few weeks later.
Or decades, centuries or millenia.
One thing for sure though. It's on its way!
Maybe.
