When I was in college ( a couple of years ago) I heard rumors that if the need arose (such as ww3) that the US would have to have some kind of draft, especially if china is involved. But instead of it being called the draft, it was some sort of mandatory military time that everyone (women included) would have to serve. I think you had to do 2 years, and it applied to anyone 18-25. They would probably call it Mandatory Civil Service to sound better. I heard it through a college newspaper though, so I am unsure on how reliable it is.

WW3 has always been thought of as an air and missle war, not a soldier war, so there will be no draft. I would like to think we could adopt a program designed to help children fit into the workforce but we only take the smartest and the best behaved into the Military or to fight fires, which make it seem like our government wants to kill those off first.

I personally believe that if the U.S. continues to get militarily involved in other countries, sooner or later we're going to have to have some form of draft. But our political leaders have all publically said they will never bring back the draft, so any semblance of one will be given a different name (at least at first). In the Iraq matter, there were many who said there was already a 'back door' draft, in that the military was calling back those with inactive reserve status, to serve and boost the ranks. All it's going to take is someone like Iran or N. Korea to get so defiant and testy, that they draw us into a land presence on the soil or on the border, and pretty soon we just won't have enough military to do the job....and to have enough in reserves to rotate the duty. That's just my opinion....from a former draftee.

I believe the draft must by no means come again. I am no longer towards conflict and combating, and that i applaud our troops nonetheless loss of life available in the market. Going into the army must be a men and women option and so they must by no means be pressured to do it. THats is like taking our freedom away. Though this nation is taking increasingly of our freedoms away each and every yr. We are slowly fitting a socialistic nation. Like for illustration why must i be punished or price ticket for no longer dressed in a seat belt, ya recognize? It wont damage any individual else however myself, and it they do this why dont they take all sweet clear of us, or doughnuts, or beer from us. It is the identical factor. IF we preserve letting this occur it'll simplest worsen. I am no longer seeking to be radical or some thing and i'm sorry i jumped alittle of subject, however being within the army and risking your existence must be a option and no longer pressured on anybody. DOes this make experience? sorry if i indignant any individual!

If we have WW3, we won't need troops. The world would end in a nuclear holocaust in a day.

Of course!

But as long as we pick our fights with third world countries we know are weaker than ourselves, and haven't the capabilities to fight back in earnest, the draft will remain a distant option.
