Whatever you do, don't do it yourself. Chances are you're not going to stumble across a sterile 14 gauge needle and a clamp. So, that being said, find a clean, reputable tattoo/piercing shop and have them do it. They will more than likely make a mark with a Sharpie and will then clamp the skin, this will hurt. They will then take a sterile needle and pierce the clamped skin through the marked area. This is going to hurt a but will feel like a 'pop' when the needle comes out. The pain should subside as soon as the barbell goes in and they leave you alone. I have my belly pierced twice, one on top and once on the bottom, and they both hurt when I had them done, but my first one healed in 6 months and the second one healed in less than 3. MAKE SURE TO KEEP IT CLEAN. Follow any cleaning instructions they give you. They may suggest Provon, medicated soap, it works wonders. Also, it helps if you soak the piercing in a solution of sea salt and water. It's a bit tricky to do but if you use a bathroom Dixie cup and bend over and let it 'suction' to the piercing then stand up straight, it shouldn't spill. This helps with expediting the healing process. Oh, and don't play with it, it's tempting, I know, but don't play with it, it will only increase the chances of getting it infected. And don't take out the original barbell until at least 2 months after it was pierced.

Belly button piercing has its dangers, but could be avoided if you are well prepared to get 1. If its pain thats the problem, then the solution is how you handle pain. The healing time is about 4 months to 1 year.

not really dangerous, but it does hurt. my tounge piercings didn't hurt as bad. if it doesn't get pierced properly, your body can reject it. i've had it happen, the barbell just pushed through the skin. it gets infected easily, and takes a very long time to heal. you have to constantly clean it. i wouldn't reccommend it. it's not cool anymore. well, at least in the US it isn't. i don't know about Australia. hope this helps you.

Personally I suppose stomach button earrings are extra gorgeous. I have one and I didnt suppose it used to be painful. My sister has each and he or she stated her nostril harm the worst out of all her piercings, she has gotten her rook, nostril, and stomach button. Complications can occur with both you simply ought to watch out to not get an illness. They each will scar however the nostril could be obvious extra. My sister has a bit of preserve in her nostril (it's closed) however you'll be able to see in which it used to be. It isnt particularly noticable however nonetheless there. And stomach buttons earrings depart a circle scar which isnt the prettiest. I wish this is helping making a decision.

ok, this girl pierced my belly, and it didnt hurt as much, when they stick in the needle it doesnt hurt, but when they put the belly ring in there, it hurts when they are getting it throught the top hole. i didnt get it pierced at a shop, so mine didnt get infected. try to put salt water on it, it doesnt take that long for it to heal, and its dangerous when you get it pierced by somebody outside the tatoo place, because their needle might not be clean. so i just baught them a new needle for them to use on me and throw away!!!!

well it's not dangerous and to me it hurt bad, worse then my tongue and my eyebrow (which I did myself) It takes about a year to heal and that's if you aren't getting it caught on things and taking good care of it. Mines totally fine now but I've known tons of girls who have ended up taking there's out because it wouldn't heal. good luck!
