A lazy colleague can be a drag. And if the boss does not really care, you are in a real fix. Try doing just your share of the work and leaving the rest to itself, for a few days till your boss sits up and takes notice. Then when he demands an explanation, give him a clear and concise one. Try reasoning with him. If the boss understands, your problem will eventually be solved. If he is apathetic, or this lady happens to weild clout with him, better start looking for another job.

Looking busy and being seen to be doing work is a real art form, just start to do the same a little and take tips from her. If u lay off being so eager and u are working as a team then the work will not get done and the boss will moan and then you just continue to joke and be cool with her, she will soon get the message cos she does not want to lose her job yeah? by the way, Sid's on holiday!

That's a difficult and quite common situation. It needs a plan. First don't complain yet; next try and separate your joint work so it becomes clear how much each of you has done individually. As I don't know what the work is I can't suggest how to do that; but there are ways for most jobs. Next mention it to her by bringing it up casually during a break; see how she thinks about it. Once you have tried a number of ways to improve the situation, then ask to see your boss formally and make a verbal complaint; having thought it through before the meeting. Then ask for his suggestions for improving the situation; this is called passing the ball. If he makes no suggestions then later if this goes to a tribunal he will be seen as the key area of failure. Its a long process but good luck and stick to your guns.

Yeh.I know how you feel. i have almost a similar kind of colleague. , a female sales manager who was promoted from being a secretary just because she has been flaunting her bosom at her 60 year old dirty old man boss.
Business has never improved at all. She can't sell. Most of the accounts under her care are 'hand-me'downs' from previous sales people who have left in protest to her promotion. She Can't lead. The team of already half baked sales personnels are being led by a half baked manager, and they get blamed for not doing their job well. Yet she thinks she's the bread winner of the company, and trotting about like a swollen pig full of pride Wonder what the shareholders will think when they learn of this. Wonder whats going to happen when this dirty old man suddenly collapses due to watching too much of her bosom.
Wonder what's happening behind that closed door each time she goes in to for briefing.

Do your work, do not volunteer to do any other work and make sure the work you do is exemplary. Allow the colleague to shirk her responsibilities and for it to be obvious that she is not pulling her weight. The more you cover for her the more she will take advantage. Don't tell tales or winge, bosses don't like that, but by making sure that your work is perfect and that you are doing your job properly, it should highlight how she is doing the opposite.
Secondly, try not to let it get to you, bad feeling at work is not good. We spend too much time there to let it get us down as it will encroach on our home life.

Tell her I'm doing this today that's what you are doing if its not done its her section.
sorry I don't know the way the job works, but its annoying when someone does not pull their weight have you tried talking to this person.
Get her teamed up with someone that does not take crap and so she has to .
If others are working with you and know this all of you
tell her.
just remember she is on same pay why should she get easy ride.

I would for one thing not do her work for her. let the boss see it isn't all getting done and then he will do something.as long as it gets done he is content. i think we have one or more of these lazy people in every profession.

quit your whining and get on with it
if she really is lazy then she will get her comeuppance- what goes around comes around.
Better to leave it to that than go whingeing to your boss- he sounds like the kind of guy that won't care anyway
