The soaps and various programmes are sponsored by various cos and commercials form part of the scheme. Most of the commercials are very creative and are sometimes more entertaining that the programmes. They give the necessary break to the viewer to do other jobs in between. The TV Ads also pass on the message to the not so educated masses too who do not read much.
The disadvatanges of TV ads are that most viewers are mere passive spectators without actually absorbing anything. In these days of channel surfing, people may simply switch channels no sooner an ad is telecast.

Advantages
- Reaches a larger target market. Most people have TVs.
- Has a strong influence. For instance, compare flyers and TV commercials. Both are advertising tools yet consumers tend to perceive that a certain company is more successful when they advertise on TV. Flyers is deemed much more cheaper, thus the company seems less established to them.
- Frequent replays.
- More interactive and entertaining, hence more favourable responses. The power of television is in its ability to simultaneously appeal not only to sight and hearing, but to strengthen interest through the dimensions of movement and the realism of full colour.

Disadvantages
- Selective rentention. Consumers may tune out to certain repetitive commercials after a few times. Unless the commecial is intrusive enough to capture their attention.
- There are more newer advertising mediums like the Internet, thus TV ads get slightly overshadowed.
- Higher costs in terms of airtime and production. You need to air in many times for most viewers to fully take in in, If not, your commercials will just be wasted. Also, TV ads need large production fees. Hence the higher cost.

That's all I can remember. Should have paid more attention in school. Lol. Hope it helps anyway.

Advantages include; they pay for the shows we want to see, they tell us of new products and services available that we may not have heard of otherwise, you can run to the bathroom or get a drink and not miss the show you were watching, and they provide entertainment to a lot of us since some of them are so funny or so out in left field, you can't help but laugh (Vonage comes to mind). Disadvantages are: They interrupt the show you were watching several times while it is on sometimes more than the show itself, they can get very repetitive, some are very stupid, and some of them have on the UGLIEST people I have ever seen!! Good question!!

Broadcast television Pros: + It's local. You get local news, weather and information. + They are more responsive to viewers. + It's free. all one needs to do is put up an antenna. + It's better quality. Cable and satellite systems must compress signals to make room for more channels. Compression reduces resolution. + It's federally regulated. The FCC puts limits on what can be shown. Cons: - It's federally regulated. The FCC puts limits on what can be shown. - Fewer channels. Cable/Satellite: Pros: + It's not as highly regulated. Almost anything can be shown. + More channels. + Offer additional services such as Broadband Internet and phone. + Can offer On Demand and "replay" services. Cons: - It's not as highly regulated. Almost anything can be shown. - Less local. "Must carry" laws had to be implemented to make sure that local communities were served before profits. Some communities require "community access" channels in their franchise agreements to make sure the Cable Company pays at least some attention to community needs.. - Costs. A monthly fee must be paid for service. Pricing structures constantly change. - Less responsive to customers. - Quality generally is lower due to compression to add more channels. - Generally no competition: In most areas, one cable company servers all subscribers. Satellite and Telco offerings are changing this, though. I may edit and add to the list as I think of more . . .
