I'm going to guess that it is because it is masculine. Women are taught to shave off/wax/pluck their body hair. That is what society says is feminine (stupid). So what is the opposite of feminine? That would be masculine. What is the opposite of groomed/shaven/waxed body? A hairy one. Putting this all together you get hairy = masculine. Of course this is quite dependent on your scene. A lot of goth and industrial people are shaved all over. Body builders are smooth too, they do this so they can show off their muscles better. Then there's asian guys, naturally less hair.

Personally I like a man with some body hair. It has not to be taken to the extremes though. For me it is a sign of masculinity. Men with no hair at all seem like women to me. Obviously, it is not always the case.

Cuz they're stuck in the 80's and too scared or lazy to wax or shave. And for the ladies' sake, (and especially yours) treat the nether-regions to a grooming. She might just spend more time in a well-kept lawn than she would in an over grown field.

Many men are proud of their body hair because they have a normal, healthy feeling of self-worth: It's good to be proud of your body the way it is (IMHO). And MANY women like it too - it's warm and cuddly (not to mention masculine).

we dont give a ****. its as simple as that. i dont strive to look good so people will notice me. if i want to be noticed by someone i will shout "HEY YOU!" and point my finger at them. for the most part. hairy men like myself just dont care that we are hairy.
To be 100% honest with you im hairy and nobody wants me because of it and everyone is like "cut your hair and you will be a stud". im hairy because i dont want anyone to want me. i want to be alone. i enjoy the peace.

most men i know are not at all proud of their body hair - they try to get rid of it
but like my bf some of them are to scared to wax (which i understand fully...)
