My son is 14 years old. I still have to bring him to a child psychologist for a proper diagnosis... if my son is ADHD. He showed several symptoms of being one and it worries me. I am not so keen on putting him on medication because of the possible negative side effects. I do believe that there are other ways and means of dealing with ADHD children other than medication.

I use to work with ADHD children, the true ones, not every child that can't concentrate long enough to satisfy their teachers. These kids, even into preteen could NOT concentrate on one task for more than 30 seconds. We have got to stop medicating children to counteract poor diet and being a kid. I would look at what your son is eating, cut out as much "artificial food" as you can, dyes & additives have a poor effect on most people, lack of concentration and hyperactivity are symptoms of a poor diet.

Then his health care professional positioned him on Tegretol at night time to calm him down a few. He has regular outbursts, will get into the whole thing, destroys the whole thing and has bouts of mania. I realize what you're going by way of and could like to present my aid to you for the period of this time. It is difficult and your persistence will run very skinny. I simply thank God although that he has despatched this lovely distinctive demands little one into my existence. My son is 7 and in moment grade. Have you suggestion approximately enrolling your child in karate or an extracurricular recreation?? Might support along with his activeness. As a long way as controlling your self, I could move to a further room to chill off for a minute. Then procedure him and permit him recognise what you want him to do. Remember their little brains can best do something at a time or even then they'll want a few reminding.

Stay away from the drugs. The best "cure" is to find something he loves to do and focus him on that. Music and instrument playing is a common one. The drugs those damn docs want to put him on are a quick fix. They will cripple him mentally in the long run. Find a good head doc who is caring and willing to put in the time needed not just drug the boy up

The best way to deal with ADHD children is found in an episode of South Park. All you have to do is slap the piss out of your kid and yell "Sit down and study!"

Honestly, I think many children would benefit from a little discipline instead of this molly-coddling "time out" bullshit.

I took my son in when I first saw the signs. He was 6. He does take meds, but only when he goes to school. Not on holidays, weekends or such. He needs the meds to focus and concentrate while in school. I am doing what is best for him. Not what is best for me. Also, I have definitely seen the difference with him in school on and off meds. Huge difference. He is more contolled, relaxed, concentrates better, less ditracted, and so on.

There are herbal suppliments that can be used. I forget which ones now. My husand used them with his son and they worked. Also kids that have ADD and ADHD react differently to caffine than kids without these disorders. It actually helps them calm down and concentrate.

a structured schedule is what works the best... have it on a white board or something that he can see. Discipline is also very important... if he thinks he can run the house he will try to do whatever he wants
