The book is very nice. I got the copy of that. The book speak about about small stories and simple life of the village people. The book sound like Malgudi Days. The book also got Booker prize. Arundhati is a great writer and activist also.

It's well written, the images are very vivid and put you "there" in the scene (smells, colours, sounds, sensations). This book got me interested in trying Indian cuisine! However the story is very sad and it has a tragic end. The main themes are rejection and retaliation within the family network. I guess dysfunctional families are to be found the world over. I thought the ending was a little forced and unnecessary, but that's just IMHO.

The God of Small Things is one of my all time favorites! It would help a lot to be familiar with the cultural background of Kerala before you read it--there are a lot of cultural and regional things mentioned and if you don't understand those things, you probably won't be able to get nearly as much out of it. But yeah--great book...I'd be happy to discuss it with you sometime...

The book won the commonwealth award, and is very famous.
Iv read this about 3 years back...the story is set in India, and centers around a single mother and her 2 children.
It is a very touching and tragic story....it holds a deeper meaning, that i guess, different people can decipher in different ways.
