I think being politcally correct is great, it's just respectful to be politcally correct and everyone wants to be respected.

Some people are just set in their ways and others are just plain rude. I agree with when you say political correctness is a sign of respect. During the holiday's I say "Happy Holiday's now instead of "Merry Christmas", because in the United States not everyone celebrates Christmas. I just say it out of respect for others. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. People need to understand that the United States is a country of diverse cultures.

I think your missing something about this, Posture. Good manners, politeness, courtesy, etc., stand alone. They don't change with the times or the political winds of the day. PC, on the other hand, is politics. It's not respect (which is something that must be earned). It's political fashion, political expediency for the payoff of political support, or acceptance, or, more materially, votes and money.

Those that are not PC don't give a damn. They are the authentic ones, because you know exactly where they are coming from. But how can you distinguish from the insincere PC person and the person how has geniune respect? For example, is a racist who is PC less dangerous than the overt bigot? Yes, everytime, because he's cloaking his true sentiments and lying behind the veil of PC.

Choice!!

Political Correctness takes away our right to free speech. But think about it, you dont have the right not to be offended. PC mentality is the death of free thought.

Just because someone says something rude or uncalled for doesn't mean they shouldn't have the right to say it.

Because it is a form of censorship, and it is used to debase people. Listen to the BBC for a longtime and see how the English address things. They are less PC and far more honest and open. I think we can learn a few things from our English cousins. And if it breeds resentment then it is not achieving its goal, is it?

OK, political correctness states that it is racist calling black coffee, black coffee, or a blackboard a blackboard, because it might offend black people.

Does that not sound stupid to you?

Also it detracts from free speech, but it isn't enforceable in law, so the PC brigade can bugger off.

Political correctness has not been bred out of repect for others, rather it comes from the parlalysing fear of litigation that has swept the world

Maybe because what's known as "political correctness" now is people hearing only what they want to hear, and nothing else.
