In other mammals the uterine lining is simply reabsorbed when the fertile period ends. Only in human females is this lining actually shed.
The other point that others were making is that no other mammal is fertile once a month, every month. Most mammalian females are only fertile during a particular mating season and in others that don't have a distinct mating season they are only fertile once or twice a year.

"Only human beings and the great apes experience a true menstrual cycle. Most placental mammals experience estrus instead. The menstrual cycle is under the control of the reproductive hormone system and is necessary for reproduction."
