The story of Omkara is taken from the Famous MALAYALAM MOVIE "KALIYATTAM". In the movie, Suresh Gopi acted hero's role and Lal acted as anti hero. The movie came around 10 years back and Suresg Gopi got the NATIONAL AWARD for his Splendid PERFORMANCE. The Movie was Directed by JAYARAJ, a noted Indian director.This malayalam movie was based on the classic, OTHELLO.
Now you should clearly understand How close is Omkara to Othello.

coz, there is one similarity in between omakara n othello that is problem of social relationship or personal relationship.
