The word "lightest" refers to the weight of an object or, indirectly, the object's mass.
The mass of an object will depend solely on the amount of the substance you have.
Using this logic, one cannot give a definite answer to your question since you did not specify an amount.

There is, however, a property of matter which might help in your search for the "lightest" metal......it is called density.
The density of a material can be calculated as the ratio of the mass of the object to its volume,
d = m / v
Density = mass / volume

The higher the density, the less volume a given mass has.

Density not only depends upon the material in question, but also its conditions while being measured.
Generally (although not always) objects tend to expand when hot and thus decrease their density. Also, the state of matter the object is in and the atmospheric pressure will influence it as well.
You specified none of these conditions.

That said, Lithium (Li) has a very low density for a metal, only 535 kg/m^3....compare that to another well known "light" metal, Aluminum with a density of 2700 kg/m^3.
*All densities measured at or around STP.

This would depend on which source u looking at

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1200/is_n16_v149/ai_18229956 <= This articles state that scientists have been able to convert hydrogen to metal.

http://education.jlab.org/itselemental/ele012.html <= While this articles state that Magnesium is the lightest metal that can be used to build things.

http://www.answers.com/topic/lithium <= But Lithium would win for being the lightest solid element

In some respects hydrogen behaves as a metal... but apart from that, I'd go for lithium (Li, 3rd element of periodic system).

No metal, or every metal. The lightest metal ATOM is Lithium. if you had 500g of lithium & 1g of Uranium, the uranium would be lighter.

But:
one mole of lithium < one mole of uranium
