Here are some REALLY good, and very inexpensive ways to treat most acne at home. Try each method (unless you’re allergic to the ingredients) until you find one that works best for you. Good luck =) BTW, I know some of these may sound bizarre but try them…what have you got to lose other than the acne!!

1. Put toothpaste on your acne before going to bed. (Make sure it is paste not gel). It should reduce the swelling of acne noticeably.

2. Dab egg whites on your acne and leave on for 20 minutes or overnight. It’s supposed to pull the infection out of the blemish.

3. Wash acne infected areas twice a day with warm salt water. This reduces oils in the skin and helps to dry the acne up without further agitation.

4. Use ice on acne before going to bed. This works best on pimples that have not yet formed a head. It reduces swelling and helps to prevent scarring.

5. Wash and dab acne with cotton balls that have been soaked in vinegar. Let dry; do not wash off immediately.

6. Place strawberries leaves over your acne and the alkalinity will help to reduce the swelling.

7. Try taking salmon oil supplements (found in health food stores and vitamin shops).

*Always drink plenty of water, eat healthy foods and get exercise.

Acne is extremely common at your age. Hormones screw just about everything up, and what they're screwing up on your face at the moment, is excess production of oil and something called "sebum". The gross explanation is that sebum forms a hard crud in your pores, and backs up all kinds of bacteria and stuff behind it until it can't go anywhere else, and forms a big volcano-like pimple. And although it can be very satisfying to do so, messing with your pimples (squeezing, covering with makeup, etc) is a BAD idea. Squeezing will cause scarring and covering it with makeup only adds to the dirt and oil in the area that's affected.

Now, as for what you can do, most people have correctly responded that you want to wash your face more than once a day. Morning and evening is probably enough for most people, but if you feel all greasy in the afternoon, you can either wash again, or use a towlette-type cleanser, like Ponds cleansing wipes. Another possibility is Benzoyl Peroxide (BP), a common acne ingredient sold over the counter which actually *works*. The trick is, you have to use the lowest percentage of BP available, because a small percentage will work as well as a large percentage, but it will irritate your skin *more*. I believe Nutrogena makes an acne wash (Nutrogena Acne Cream Cleanser) that has a low percentage of BP. The only thing you have to be aware of with BP, is it doesn't last forever, only as long as you continue to use it, so regular use is essential.

Also, if you wear makeup, make sure you look for "oil control" or "noncomedogenic" on the label, and NEVER sleep in it.

Good luck!

P.S. Not to give you information overload, but an oil-free moisturizer is a good thing. If you use a wash or soap that dries your face out, your body will produce oil to moisturize your skin, creating a big ol' vicious circle. Break the cycle by moisturizing with something healthier.

I had really bad acne at your age and it is because of the hormones in your body trying to adjust themselves to a more normal state. I used Ivory soap to wash my face 3 or 4 times a day, aloe vera gel as a moisturizer twice a day and put toothpaste on my pimples to dry them out. If the skin gets really dry then reduce the washing by one time per day but no less than twice per day. Use plain aloe gel if you can get it but the green stuff works OK too. Leave the toothpaste on overnight and wash off in the morning. If all this doesn't work after a month then talk to the doctor. Be sure to drink plenty of water and take vitamins as directed on the package. I bet you feel better after a month. Good luck.

If you have a severe case, see a dermatologist (Skin doctor). My son was prescribed Differin (a topical ointment), a cleanser, and a once a day general antibiotic. His severe acne case was clear in two months, and improved within a week. It was like a miracle. If you are not that concerned, then you can use products with benzoyl peroxide like Clearasil that targets the pimples you already have, or you can try other non prescription products. Do not let anyone tell you that you are not clean, or that eating greasy food or chocolate is the cause... those are total myths...good luck!

I had pretty bad acne since my mid teens and am still prone to acne now (I'm 22). In my case, I had to go on Accutane a few times and it worked wonders every time. That's not to say, however, that it won't cause really dry skin and even some mental health side affects (it's known to be linked with depression, in some cases) as well as birth defects :S

I found that taking a really low dosage helped clear my skin and kept me feeling good. But that's for severe cases - see your dermatologist.

I've recently started using Proactiv and it also works well. Your skin looks nice and healthy too. Just be sure to wash twice a day - any more than that will dry out your skin and cause it produce MORE oils.

Hope that helps

I've tried the honey & it works nice. Also if you can handle the smell, crush some garlic and mix them with the honey.put the blend on the infected part only for 5 minutes 3 times a day.

but the most important advice is NEVER TOUCH OR SCRATCH THEM BY ANY MEAN. good luck

dont listen to all the dumb ideas people give you just wash your face in the morning then at lunch then before dinner and then before you go to bed. it sound to simple but if you do that along with drinking mostly water and not much coke(soda) than in two weeks your face will look alot better i promise.(unless you have a skin problem and if thats the case go see a skin doctor).the washes are aside from your regular shower. give it a try it willllllll work

Wash your face. (make sure the soap is hypoallergenic) Use some sort of astringent. (witch hazel is great and very inexpensive)

There isn't anything else you can do about it without seeing a doctor. Fancy products don't do anything more than cheap ones so don't waste your money on them.

Get a steel brillo pad and some lemon juice, get your face wet and start rubbing hard, apply lemon juice and rub it hard until the pain goes away and the numbing sets in. If that doesn't work...well your face will smell like lemons and girls will like you more and will kiss you and lick you...:)
