if you are asking the early warning signs of an earthquake, there is a couple of people who predict them, who have appeared on the radio show "Coast to Coast AM with George Noory." One guest, geologist Jim Berkland, follows the classified advertising section of the newspaper. Shortly before an earthquake is about to occur, there is a spike (increase) in the numbers of lost pets that are reported. It is his hypothesis that the animals somehow sense the unease. He has had a high rate of success with this. You can go to the official website for more info.

Well, do this quick test.

1) Check if the ground is shaking.
2) See if everyone is running for their lives.
3) Is anyone yelling, "Earthquake!!!"?

If all of these are true, then it's too late to be worrying about when the earthquake that hit 5 second ago is going to hit.

Scientists look at the rocks in a certain area to see if they've been uplifted or moved in some way. They also check the date of the rock - based on how far below the surface it is or what is surrounding it. They can tell if an earthquake had been in that area and roughly when this happened.
