Take an SOS pad.Wet it throughly and apply GENTLE pressure in a circular motion. If you keep it wet and do not bear down,it will not scratch.Chances are that the grease has been heated up enough to get baked on.None of the products mentioned previously, will work.Be patient and keep moving the wet pad in a circular motion, and the baked on grease will slowly come off.Put the kettle away and take it out when you need it.

A spray with oven cleaner should do the trick, but remember to rinse it off well and don't let any get inside the kettle spout.
