Something happened to your hard drive. If you installed any new hardware recently then take it out and try again. If that doesnt work then maybe you had a virus such as a worm that deleted some system files. Check that your hard drive (IDE cable and power) is plugged in correctly.
-If you had important files and have another hard drive, then plug it in as a master, and your affected hard drive as a slave [There is a jumper on the HD just move it over to what the sticker shows as Slave] Then install an operating system on the master and once its up and running transfer your files over to it, then switch it to slave and switch other HD as master. Install your OS and put files back.
-If you had important files and have another computer, plug your affected HD as a slave and transfer files to the computer. Put HD back in your original computer and install OS, then put as a slave in other comp. and put files back.
-If you dont have another computer or HD, then just reinstall windows, the plus side to this is computer is fresh and fast.
Good luck

This error usually means that your MBR (master boot record) has been corrupted or the hard drive has problem. Rather than trying to re-install the operating system try using the utility from the link below.
I know it isn't a totally free program, but it will allow you to see if the hard drive is recoverable first before you go thought all the flaming hoops backwards while whistling Dixie out of your behind to re-install Windows on a bad drive. At that point you can decide if you want to spend the money. $30.00 isn't bad if it saves you several hours of recovery time and not to mention losing data you already on the drive in the process of re-installing Windows from scratch.
Good luck!

positioned the CD interior of thechronic then ability the device on and rancid lower back. you should work out a "Push any key besides from this CD" message. of route in case you spot this message then push any key and word if the CD will boot. however, in case you do not see that "Push any key..." message and given the very incontrovertible certainty that you're seeing the "OS no longer got here upon" message, then your hardchronic might want to no longer be the issue. both your CD and HD (possibly) connect with a similar IDE interface on the motherborad. So what i'd do is: a million. verify the cables. If the records cable pulled up from the motherboard, even a touch, it might want to reason those indicators. 2. verify the BIOS settings. often this is composed of hitting some key (named on the demonstrate) even as the gadget is first powered up. In those BIOS settings see what's listed as your established and Secondary IDE contraptions. you should work out both your HD and CD drives there. If no longer, then both the automated detection has been became off or there's a cabling difficulty. You reported the demonstrate is going blue once you try besides the CD. If this implies you made previous the "Hit any key" message and the gadget did certainly start up besides from the CD, then you really might want to be actual about the HD. i'd go decrease back in and verify that cabling lower back which include the flexibility to the HD. I honestly have in certain situations considered between the pins on the flexibility connector pushed out of the connector itself very few distance sufficient to make intermittent or no contact. desire you had a backup!

It probably means that the operating system got wiped out or the hard drive failed on the PC. You can try reinstalling the operating system you once had on there, but you'll have to be careful so you don't wipe out any data you may have had!

No crap no don't do any thing like a re-install. This points to a corrupted or missing IO.SYS or MS DOS.SYSJust pop in your start up disk and use the sys program to put back the missing file... From the A: prompt type the following command
sys c:
This automatically restores the IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS and command.com files. If you edited the msdos file, you will have to restore any edits manualy..

sometimes your hard drive is not spinning or working at all, check connections, once you determined is just a connection then you are good, but if the hard drive is faulty then replace it.
