You have a definite point if you are referring to sitcoms; since the demise of "Friends," good comedies are hard to come by (I personally would suggest the NBC comedies "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office", and though it may be starting to peter out, the CBS comedy "Two and a half men.")
That said, there are several good dramas on TV right now. The two greatest are "Lost" on ABC and "24" on Fox. I'm not the biggest fan of the following shows, but "Deseperate Housewives" on ABC and "Grey's Anatomy," also on ABC, are continual critical favorites.
Another show I can personally vouch for is "House," on Fox, which boasts not only some of the finest writers but also some of the finest actors of any current show on TV (for those interested in TV history, "House" is kind of like "St. Elsewhere", only much meaner - in a good way, of course).

Yeah I agree. I can only take so much realitity tv and all the CSI Law and Order type rehashes.
I do admit there are a few good shows on. I typically watch the Monday night CBS lineup King of Queens, How I Met Your Mother, and 2 And A Half Men.
I watch The Simpsons on FOX all week.
House on tuesdays on FOX which I feel is a great original show. I bought the season 1 DVD and I'm buying Season 2 when it comes out.
The rest of the week scrounging for something interesting on until Sun.
Then I watch the FOX sunday night lineup King of THe Hill, The Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy, and The War at Home.
On Late Night I watch FOX for Becker and Fraiser and then Craig Ferguson on CBS during the weekdays and on the late night weekends I watch Stargate SG1 on CBS
Other than that weekly routine I don't watch tv except the occasional sporting event.

It's all about profit nowadays. If a network can put a show on that draws in ad money, they don't care whether it's good or not. Personally, I think another reason is people don't have the attention span to dictate what is good and what isn't. I believe a couple years ago, the average person watched MTV for 27 seconds before changing the channel.

When will they start putting out shows that are good? When the networks fire the top execs who are too tanked up on alcohol and drugs ( which evidently impairs their ability to make decisions ) and replace them with execs who want back the "formula" for good TV once again.
