I believe LBJ considered Bobby an upstart who had not paid any political "dues" and Bobby felt LBJ was a pure politician, working both sides of his mouth for his own advancement.
No Kennedy really appreciated what LBJ might have done or his personality, so there was a waste of assets there, although LBJ was a strong mover in the space program, which is why Houston, not anyplace in Florida, is the ground control for NASA.
Both men had personal issues we can't afford to have.
Similar, I think, to DDE's disdain of Adlai Stevenson.

I dont believe JFK wanted Johnson as a running mate there was rivalry there but they knew Johnson would help draw alot of votes. I believe it was political rivalry during JFKs reign that fueled the dislike between RFK and Johnson. As attorney general RFK was given alot more control like FBI head Hoover had a direct line to the presidents office but when JFK became president JFK made Hoover report directly to Bobby. Johnson knew he would never be president unless JFK was killed or died, because once JFK's term was up, Bobby would run for office. It was just a big battle for control.

Johnson was aTexan. He really never liked any of the Kennedy's.But papa Joe thought that John could not win the election without someone from the south.Hence Johnson. He just simply did not have the vision the Kennedy's had.He was actually jealous of them.

I remember reading that there was bad blood between them after JFK's assassination because Robert Kennedy did not agree with the way Johnson was running the country, or with how he was NOT upholding JFK's philosophies and plans for our government and military.
