I'm just wondering if someone can get a Password breaker and use it to get into your emails, or if this is too tricky and sci-fi for a 'Joe Bloggs' to accomplish? But if it is possible, is there any way of me checking to see what's been looked at?

Upal, would you expand on that? Is it easy to do? Not that I would do it, I am concerned someone else has done it to me. Is there anyway of me finding out? (clearly without asking the person)

Im assuming you're talking about a bruter. They use several methods to crack a password, but most often load a list of common passwords and trying each one of them until it gets through. Most mail hosts will ban an IP address after a certain amount of failed attempts at logging in, that can be bypassed too. As long as the password contains letters(lower and uppper case) and numbers, you shouldn't have to worry about that. But it definately isn't that hard to figure out how to do it.

Just use a password of at least 8 random characters, using both upper and lower case letters, and add in some numbers and punctuation marks too and you will be safe.

Most passwords are cracked because they are easy to guess. Heck, half the women in the world use either the word "love" or there b/f name as their password. So easy to guess!

If you use a really lame and obvious password like "test" or "password", then someone might guess it. Otherwise, it will be tricky for someone to crack, especially if you mix letters and numbers. The most common way of getting cracked is to get phished - someone convinces you to give them your password by pretending to be Yahoo or some other nonsense. Yahoo will never ask for your password so don't fall for that.

It is possible to brack any password its just a mater of time and how far you are willing to go to get there.

I think that after so many attemts then yahoo will require you to enter the numbers and letters that apper in a picture as well as your password to log in. Some after getting it wrong so many times will stop anyone from logging into the account for a set amount of time.

it is hard to use a password breaker on an online site, as it is too slow to check all possibilities.

If you are worried, change your password to a non-word and use numbers.

another good tip is to use characters that dont appear on a keyboard (using ALT-and a 3 digit number)
