The 60's and 70's were great, but I'd have to say the 90's was the best decade. The whole world had moved into what people always only thought of as "the future". Many talented bands emerged with sounds like no one had ever heard. I am 25 years old and proud to have been a part of that generation. I'm not just speaking for myself, the music from the 90's blew everyone away. If you disagree you were too old to enjoy/appreciate it, or too damn young to understand it.

The 70s bar none: In such a short 10 year time, music history rushed through, emerging from the psychedelic (thank God), to sugar sweet pop (remember Bobby Goldsboro anybody?) to folk ballads/anthems (Dylan, McClain, Allman Bros., Lynrd Skynyrd), to sharper blues edged electric AND acoustic guitar sounds (KISS, Stones, Black Sabbath, Boston, Cheap Trick), then the synth bands rolled in ( ELP, ELO,Styx, Kansas) and the decade wound down with a glimpse into Disco (Donna Summer, Village People), Punk and Techno ( Blondie, The Clash....etc)
And all the while, Country was on the sidelines....until 1980, when John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever, 1977) made "Urban Cowboy"......But the 70s was my decade, so I'll stop here.

Many people cling on to the music they grew up with. I was a teenager in the 90's and a kid in the 80's so I love those two decades the most. Almost all of the music I listen to is from the 90's and I hate recent music, the new millennium's version of rock, punk and emo is crap to me. Even pop music I hated growing up is better, to me, than the outbreak of recent music. What defined the 80's and 90's music to me, that I love, is the recurrence of punk music, the invention of grunge, and the ongoing revolution of metal and rock music.

I think each decade had a distinct sound and style, so it's hard to select one as being superior to another. It can depend on your musical preffrences...e.g If you like your 'Rock n Roll' check out the 50's..psychedelic pop/blues and rock.. the 60's..prog, folk and punk..the 70's..electro synth pop and ballads..the 80's..indie grunge..goth. nu rock ..90's and anything goes for the present. As you can see, it hard to generalise a decade without stereotyping and there's been great music in each decade. Go to your record collection and see how many Cd's come form which era..they tend to correspond to the time you were most into music. Ps..your musical taste change over time to so you tend to delve back into the past for inspiration!

The 70s and the Noughties!!
A 70s defined by glam rock - how much fun was that!!! It's a nostalgia thing too - I was 11 at the end of the 70s so I had not suffered any teenage angst that could have corrupted my memory...it was all sunshine and fun music. memories of my dad playing Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Ma playing Dr Hook!!! Tut tut
The noughties - I just think there has been a real explosion of cool music this millenium - and we are all wanting to have fun again...e.g. Kylie cancelled gig at Glasto summed up that we can allow ourselves to have varied tastes without having to confine ourselves by definitions of "cool".

Definitely, the 60's and early 70's. ( none of that disco crap) There were so many rock bands that came out during that time that are icons that have shaped rock music today: Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Who, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, etc...etc...
