No, although the desire to learn more about other cultures and languages strikes me as a sign of an active, intelligent mind. Intelligence is enhanced by mastery of critical thinking, and thinking well in ones own native language is more than most people accomplish in a lifetime.

It certainly indicates one type of intelligence and gives one access to the tools & portals to make one more well rounded.

If you speak 3 languages you are trilingual.
If you speak 2 languages you are bilingual.
If you speak 1 language you are probably a US American.

Once upon a time there was a Mother mouse with her baby mice
taking a stroll through a barn. The Mother mouse and the baby mice were confronted by a big cat. The Mother mouse responded to the threat of big cat saying " Arf,Ruff, Ruff, Bark Growel, Ruff Arrr, Arff!!!" The cat ran away frightened & bewildered.

The Mother mouse turned to the baby mice and said, "You see children, it pays to be bilingual!"

Learning a foreign language has increased my intelligence through learning not only the vocabulary and grammar but also through being able to think in another language.

There are words and thoughts that exist in other cultures and their languages to which there are no equivalents in English. It is mind-expanding to find new and different ways to think about life.

I moved to Sweden over 7 years ago. I speak and read fairly fluent Swedish now and very grateful for the experience.

Yes. Language is the key to intelligence, so to move those synapses more increases the electrical currents and that increases the productivity in the area called the brain. Thus, even though I do not speak another language fluently, it's good to try.

Speaking more than one language makes a person smarter because you're working your brain more than usual. When you know more than one language you're basically exercising your brain. You hold more information in your brain, your ability to retrieve that information and make sense of the world using different stimuli gives you an advantage over those who only speak one language, because while they're lost trying to understand, your brain is already working making sense of what you're hearing, seeing...whatever...well that is if the second language spoken is the one you know. I only speak one language, but I want to learn how to speak Spanish.

I speak four languages and I don`t think that I`m more intelligent than a single-language-person.
Your perspectives are broader, you can talk to more people, read more books and so on. But this doesn`t mean that your intelligence increases automatically.

yes. but i think it happens indirectly.

the ability to speak a different language(s) is not why a bi/multilingual speaking person is more intelligent but rather it is the knowledge gained from others' experiences and cultures that learned while using their language skills.

Yes. Each language gives you a different perspective. Intelligence is having a lot of different perspectives, and using them to understand things.

Only if they understand what they are saying.... lmao
Seriously though.... No they usually just know of more ways to say nothing! Intelligence is based on relevance!
