Love is a state of mind, but blissfully a pleasant state of mind. Love is also a product of the human need to reproduce. It isn't necessary to reduce love to mere emotion, nor is it necessary to elevate love to the extreme level of the divine.

Love is as love does, to paraphrase Forrest Gump. If you love, you show it. Is that a credit to the human race? It's a romantic notion to think so, but I personally doubt it. Love is far too subjective in nature - and by that I mean we often think we fall in love with people only to discover that love and lust have changed positions.

Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong in dealing with lust as opposed to love. But the difference is bare, and as you've pointed out, often selfish.
