I would NOT get the xbox 360 if I were you. I have it and have had nothing but trouble with it since the day I got it. It has been scratching my discs. I just had trouble with it not identifying discs when put in. I am getting that problem fixed now. Also if you get the smallest scratch on the disc it won't read it. SONY products are much more reliable so far and I would recommend the PS3. Some of my PS2 games are scratched up about five times as bad as my 360 games and still play fine. However when technology becomes more advanced there are many cons. The 360 and PS3 spin the discs much faster than say the original xbox and PS2, therefore the slightest movement can throw your disc off course and scratch it. Overall, I'd have to say get the PS3. SONY is a more reliable company and hopefully that won't change.

people say that the PS3 will have more games. it doesnt.
Fact is, the PS3's multiple miniprocessor architecture is MANY times harder to program for versus the 360's fairly run of the mill setup, similar to most modern PC's. In simple terms, it means that game makers can roll out games Much faster for the Xbox and quickly port them to PC (for double the profit), whereas makers of PS3 games will have to rewrite the entire game code to port it to any other console. Heres a hint: Game makers prefer easier titles to make, because that means they can make them faster, and that means they can pump out more.
If youre into multiplayer, Microsoft's Xbox Live is already up and going, and since it has been for years, most of the bugs have been worked out. The same cant be said to any degree for sony. Games like Halo 2 showed just how loyal the fanbase is with reliable multiplayer. Millions still play online and that attracted more developers too.
Aside from that, Sony was late in handing out developers kits, much later than Microsoft... so the developers started working on Xbox games first.
On top of that, xbox released sooner and with a lower price tag. Game manufacturers feel that, since the games themselves cost 50 bucks or more now, that they should be selling on a console that is affordable. After all, you could sell a couple games on a thousand dollar machine that only the richest could afford, but you wont make as much profit selling millions at the same price on a console that more people can afford (and thus own).
Which brings me to my final point. Xbox 360 is, and will remain, FAR cheaper than PS3 ever will be.
So lets wrap this up. PS3 lost many of its best producers because they simply failed miserably. They were late across the board, and now the PS3 will be so expensive that it will exclude many of its intended audience. Factor in that xbox has very comparable performance, and already has huge blockbusters lined up (like Halo 3 and myriad others) whereas sony has none really to speak of, and you have a formula for success.
For me, there is no question about which one to get. The only question is when to start putting aside to get it!

360 because Halo 3 will be the best game out there and there will be a Dual launch of GTA VI on both systems. 360 is going to be cheaper than PS3 and if you think the 360 had problems on the launch date, wait until PS3 comes out, I guarentee it will have more problems
