Being "righteous" is not a self realization that one can percieve about themselves. Your judgement may be tainted by yourself. Realizing that we are wrong from time to time, even in the way we approach or treat others, is a good step to "true" righteousness. We are all human and therefore are capable of flaws, indeed, I would venture to gaurantee, we have flaws. So be cautious of trying to attain "righteous" status.

Because for each one of us what we like is our right. More than being righteous we want to justify our like as the right and the dislike as wrong.

Suppose you are a Judge and your most loved son/daughter is to be judged. Can you be righteous? Some time, yes. But think another situation in which you yourself is to be judged. Can you be righteous? If your answer is yes, then only you can be called righteous. The righteous one need to see the culprit within himself as another person while judging himself.

Choosing "righteousness" is a personal choice. But we have to remember that our choices affect others, and our words can offend and hurt others.

It is also not our place to inflict righteousness on others. It is up to God to guide others, and going around trying to dictate other's actions is usually not productive or even nice.
