When my son was in that age group and I took him to the Dr for routine exams, the Dr. actually said he wanted to see him alone and asked me to wait. Later, I was called in to see whether I had any questions or anything we wanted to discuss together. I thought that was the right thing to do by the Dr because it gave my son an opportunity to speak with the Dr about stuff that he might not discuss with me. My son also had the Drs direct phone number and was encouraged to call him directly if anything was bugging him.

My guess is that when you go in for a shot, there won't be any discussion other than just a general question about your health, but I seriously doubt that the doctor would mention anything in front of your dad. If you trust and like your doctor, call the office and ask to speak to him and just tell him that you don't want to discuss puberty related stuff in front of your dad. The dr. has to respect that and he can also explain it to your dad. It's perfectly normal not to want to have everything laid out in front of parents.

i see no reason the doctor would bring up anything not related to your tetanus issue. are you asking because this is a family dr. who you have seen from your childhood, and now think the issue of maturing is going to come up? do you sense your dad wants to talk to you about things and is planning to use the dr. to bring things out into the open? if so, maybe you should talk to your dad before going to the dr, and tell him what you are and are not comfy with discussing. where is your mom in this picture?

Just ask your dad if you can go alone.
